What’s the difference between love and desire?

Some one just sent to me in whatapp this question: what is the difference between love and lust? wants me to answer. So, i decided to ask sages in here.

A Chinese philosopher once said:
“爱，是付出；欲，是索取”

It translate to “Love is giving. Desire is obtaining.”.

So, answer your question What’s the difference between love and desire? When you’re giving regardless whether the receiver acknowledged it or in far away land or neither, that’s love. While when you, in pretex of relationship, obtain something from somebody, that desire.

Jason Hamaan The feeling of Love and Desire are in ratio. Depends on the ratio your feeling is; more love over desire or more desire over love.

Normally, the following are where the ratio of love surpassed desire:

Agape (or agapic love) - A selfless love that is passionately committed to the well-being of others.
Brotherly Love Unconditional care or affection for fellow people, even when they don’t love you back. As if for a brother or other family member.
Affection A gentle feeling of fondness or liking.
Admiration To think of someone with respect and approval. However, sometimes this refers to only one aspect of a person: Physically admiring them or admiring their accomplishments.
Empathy The ability to understand the feelings of another.
Sympathy Shared feelings between people.
Compassion Concern for the problems and well being of others.
Friendship Mutual trust and support.
Companionship Mutual affection and sympathy coming from sharing an activity or part of your life with someone.
Charity Physical actions arising from care for others.

And here is the when the ratio of desire surpassed love:

Intimacy Closeness. Often used to refer to sexual intimacy, but sometimes referring to other forms of closeness. Like “an intimate dining experience” probably means you were just physically close and enjoyed a meal together, but “they had an intimate relationship” might mean they were close friends or these days often suggests had sexual activity together.
Romance or Romantic Feelings Feelings of excitement or mystery associated with attraction to another person.
Infatuation A strong feeling of attraction to a person. In my mind this describes an attraction to the idea of the person or the idea of a relationship with the person, but without a strong understanding of that person’s true wants, needs and other qualities. Romance can sometimes have a bit of infatuation associated with it.
Passion Can refer to heightened feelings in general. But often specifically refers to heightened romantic or sexual feelings.
Sexual Attraction Increased feelings of sexual excitement (“arousal”) gained by seeing, thinking about or interacting with someone. In some ways may feel like a hunger or craving for another person or activity.
Obsession Constant or overwhelming thought about a person or thing. Obsession is often associated with infatuation or sexual attraction. Some people find their own obsessions distracting from things they’d rather think about. Other people pursue their obsessions without caring.
Lust Sexual attraction or sexual activity without regard for other types of care, admiration or affection for the other person involved.
