Did Arab apologize for the thousand years of African slave trade? Only if they had admitted they did it for the first place, or even condemned it after acknowledging the fact that the world knew they actually did it.
For more than three millennium, the arab slave traders had came long way to African continent in search of African slaves from Arabian gulf.
Some of those African slaves were helpless free-born Africans reduced to slaves as no one to stand for their right. And for some were already in bondage from root and were later sold to arabs traders in exchange of commodities!
This practices was carried out in African continent, lands spanning north Africa to east Africa, to west African, and further down southward reaching Congo river.
According to data from Wikipedia, Arabs slave traders were more active in medieval age between twelve centuries prior to the 20th century and were estimated to have sold between six million to ten million. Not to talk of millenniums of slave trading before medieval!
Guess who idealised the term “Abbysinian slave”? The arab slave traders! The term “Abyssinian slave” comes from the Arabic word Ḥabashī, which means “Abyssinian”. The term was used to describe slaves who taken from horn of Africa and were often employed by Muslim Indian chiefs, particularly in the Deccan. These slaves were believed to be physically strong and able, had military skills and administrative abilities, and to have few personal ties, which made them loyal.
As one can see through the history lenses that resourceful african men, women and children were taken by Arab traders, in large quantity and transported to slave ports in southern Yemen, northern Kuwait and Oman, and across Persia, mesepotomia and India region. These Africa people never returned to their ancestorial lands. Unlike the American or European-African slave trade, where black slave of Africans decent were brought back to west Africa, currently, known as Sierra Leone.
The abolishement of slave trading in Europe and America continent took place in early 18th-century, while the arab-turk African slave trade delayed another hundred and fifty years before abolishement.
Ever since, arabs had in no way, apologize nor compensate the millennial damage they had done to African people because the arab world never agreed slavery was a crime. Rather had gone for century vindicating the crime with Islamic teachings that since Islam had loosely allowed slavery, not a crime!
In fact, there are many Islamic laws against run-away slaves which we won’t go into that. So it’s a leeway business enterprise for those arabs who possess much gold and silver.
Rather than condemning their slavery crimes, arabs look into other direction, trying to ignore the mess they had done, in hope people wouldn’t know the crime ever existed, and they tried to demoralising Europeans, the Westerners and Jews convincing the world to believe these people were the root for the chaotic world. Though, these people were not so different from arabs!
Study has shown that the underlying reason for the demoralisation the west in particular, was in fact, the European powers were against the status quo of Arab-african slave trading, poor living standards, overall stemming from obsolete mercantile system of region, and they (European) fought to improve those people.
As in the case of the British discovered eight Abyssinian child slaves on board the ship “The Rokeby” in March 1877. This event led to pressure on the local government officials and merchants of Bushehr to stop their involvement in the slave trade. This resulted in a decline in the trade at least in the coast around Bushehr.
Did Arab world repent for the millennium enslavement of Africans?
Unfortunately, the idealolgy of slave trading is still embeded in the minds of arabs.
If you take into account how immigrant workers were treated in arab gulf states, sure, will hint you that arabs hadn’t repented. First of, most arab gulf state had a very restricted law for native homogenising with immigrants regardless of any faiths, and had in some degradatory way, looked down upon immigrants originated from Africa and South asia. And, those allowed to come over to work have to work tiredlessly with low wages and poor living condition throughout their stay in the region.
Moreso, there are countless cases of domestic abuses over immigrant workers done by their arab employers, and not to mention the cooperate indifference between immigrants and their native colleagues in arab gulf state are not something Arabs can hide.
What did arab did rather than apologize for their sins committed to africans?
The arabs, rather paying for reparation for the ages-long African slavery as encouraged and done by former European slave masters, who’d indulged in same crime, instead the arab sent tons of money to hardline Islamists in places in Africa disrupting the peaceful progress of Africa not even letting Africans to rest, all in hope to forcefully convert Africans to Islam, thereby accepting arab dominance, arab religion and rites that came therewith, which is somewhat a continuation of slavery but this time “mind slave”, which overall, added stream of revenue to lords and kings of arab gulf states, beside oil revenue.
Did you know millions of Muslim Pilgrims around the world are throwing cash at Saudi arabian king for pilgrimage year in year out? Imagine if a single muslim paid a dollar will amount a million dollars.
So, to answer the question: Did Arab apologize to Africans for the ages of African slave trade?
Funny enough! How would Arabs apologize for Africans slavery when they hadn’t recognized nor been held accountable for their crimes. The case of arab-african slave trading to European-african one is that the latter recognized their crime as crime and held accountable for it; Europeans had been paying for reparation for their mess in Africa, the earlier hadn’t. More like criminals who did the same crime but one was backed up and overlooked while the rest were exposed and held accountable for it.
